The Authentic Marathon Medal
The redesign of the medal for the Marathon of Athens, The Authentic, was a self-initiated and pro bono project that was appreciated by the organization of SEGAS. The challenge was to transform an emblematic object and a cultural carrier of a heavy past into a new one that integrates between classic and modern aesthetics. We designed the object that depicts on the one side the Panathenaic Stadium and the race in which each runner participates and on the other side every year a different artwork of a famous Greek artist will be featured. In 2019 Alekos Fassianos curated the first medal and Kostas Varotsos the second in a row. It was a great honour for Grid Studio to collaborate with such important artists and to promote the marathon's valuable heritage and its huge social role worldwide.
